Sounds Like A Revolution- Music Activism Documentary
I caught word today of a project that I'm really looking forward to. There's a new music documentary titled Sounds Like A Revolution in the works featuring Henry Rollins, Ice-T, Anti-Flag, Fat Mike and Tom Morello, among others, that seems to focus on the impact of music on our society and issues that we have faced in today's history. It sounds like a fantastic concept and something that we all share, especially the folk who listen to political and socially influenced music, but it's something we've yet to have in front of us and directly from an artist's perspective.
I think this will be a moving film on many levels and will go through dozens of emotions. Anger, frustration, fear, sadness- all of those things that inspire these bands to write what they do. Not to mention the struggle of how artists balance getting their message out when retailers refuse to carry their music. Below is the some information currently out about the documentary:
"If you're only armed with a guitar, a guitar is what you fight with"

...[it] Documents the rise of a new generation of activist musicians who are living proof that music is a powerful tool in the ongoing struggle for social change. From the Dixie Chicks to Michael Franti to the punk band Anti-Flag, artists across the musical spectrum recount their motivations and struggles over the last decade, in a post-9/11 world where dissent has been silenced and censorship is commonplace. No ordinary music doc, this inspiring rockumentary draws on the power of music and insights of artists to help us understand our world and find the courage to speak out about issues that concern us all. There's no release date listed but we do know the movie has been completed. You can also see a trailer for the movie below (which even kicks off with footage from this past summer's Warped Tour):
