In Flames Tracking for 2011 Release

In Flames has been in a the studio for the past month recording a new album. There aren't many details being released other than a 2011 release date, but the band have been posting what look like some productive photos.

Jesterhead.com, the official In Flames fan club, has some exclusive behind the scenes videos from the recording process. You have to join to check them out, but by the looks of the photos, I can only imagine what these videos have in store.

If you want to follow the recording saga, add the band on Facebook and Twitter for continuous updates.

Check out the photos below and let us know what you think this album is going to sound like:

The Death Set's "Far Weathered Friends" Video

We are excited to have the official music video for The Death Set's "Far Weathered Friends," a reworking of Daedelus' "Fair Weathered Friends." The video is directed by LAZLO, illustrated by J. Penry and animated by Wealthy Pictures.

On top of the video, we can (luckily) be expecting more stuff from The Death Set this year- including a documentary, a mix tape of the band's favorite tracks and unreleased material....and all before a new fall album. Score.

After the unexpected death of founding member Beau Velasco in late '09, I applaud the band for their choice to continue their writing, touring and general badassery. No doubt that 2010 will wrap up to be a solid year, so here's to many more awesome musical endeavors by TDS!

As details unfold about the year's planned releases, you know where to look.

New Killswitch Engage Video

After posting a teaser last week, Killswitch Engage has premiered their brand new music video for "Save Me" today.

Before you check out the video, see what guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz had to say about it:
This was my favorite video shoot EVER! It took like 1/2 an hour, and we were turned into clay. And who doesn't like claymation and space aliens? They didn't like my suggestion of turning me into a blood-thirsty pterodactyl with laser eyes at the end of the vid, but it's cool. Thanks to all who worked wicked hard on this video...it looks sweet.

Yes. It's a video with Killswitch in space getting hijacked by aliens. In claymation. What!? It even features a claymation performance, too. Just....watch:

Social Distortion signs to Epitaph!

Big, massive news for the punk music industry: Social Distortion has been signed to Epitaph Records!

Mike Ness of Social D c
omments:
We feel that Epitaph has a natural understanding of Social Distortion; both the history of the band and the direction we want to go. Combine that with their successful track record and it felt like a good next step for us. We've always been open to new ideas and pushing the envelope, but we have also been very conscientious about the decisions we've made. We considered a lot of options, but in the end, Epitaph feels like the right home for us. We're looking forward to taking this step forward, opening some new doors with this upcoming album and this next chapter of Social Distortion.
And if you didn't know, Epitaph Records was founded and is still owned by Brett Gurewitz, an original member of Bad Religion. He seems very excited to be working with the band:
My relationship with Mike goes way back to the beginnings of our careers in the LA music scene. Through the years Social Distortion have been a matchless voice in American rock and roll and I couldn't be more thrilled to play a part in the next chapter for this great band.
Personally, I can't see Social D with a better label. Epitaph is a heavy player in the punk scene and now the band can be proud to say they'll be labelmates with Bad Religion, Alkaline Trio, Rancid, Every Time I Die and New Found Glory.

The band is planning their first release with Epitaph this fall and already have a summer tour dates:

July 27 - Poughkeepsie, NY - The Chance
July 28 - Hampton Beach, NH - Casino Ballroom
July 30 - Providence, RI - Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel
July 31 - Hartford, CT - The Webster
Aug 1 - Sayreville, NJ - Starland Ballroom
Aug 3 - Wantagh, NY - Mulcahy's
Aug 4 - Lancaster, PA - Chameleon Club
Aug 5 - Rochester, NY - Nola's BBQ
Aug 7 - Chicago, IL - Lollapalooza
Aug 8 - Green Bay, WI - Oneida Casino
Aug 10 - Council Bluffs, IA - Stir Cove @ Harrah's
Aug 11 - Boulder, CO - Boulder Theater
Aug 13 - Boise, ID - Knitting Factory
Aug 14 - Medford, OR - Medford Armory

The Sword's New Album

The Sword have been keeping themselves busy and has just finished tracking their third album. The band has let us know that they are going to have a different sound from what fans may be expecting. Exciting, aye!?

Singer J.D. Cronise says they are harking back to Guns N' Roses + Thin Lizzy + thrashy elements. So this isn't going to be your dad's Thin Lizzy. And the premise behind it? A sci-fi concept album. I'm trying to wrap my head around what this is going to sound like and not going to lie...I'm stoked about the idea.

He comments::
We are just more interested in expanding our sound for ourselves. If we wanted to expand our audience we should just remake the second album over again, rather than challenge people with something new....It's really a concept record. The songs revolve around a concept we came up with or spin off from it. It's not the kind of fantasy concept though, it's more sci-fi.

The album is still unnamed but can be expected later this year.

Happy pre-Record Store Day!

I hope that everyone knows what tomorrow is (besides my birthday). It's Record Store Day! I'm pretty excited the two are falling on the same date this year. Anyway, I also hope that everyone knows exactly what Record Story Day is.

It's pretty self explanatory. You go spend every last dime you have to support independent record stores and music. Not really, but that's what always happens to music lovers. It's really the celebration of music + artists + independent stores. These are stores who are self-owned and operated- no company or overhead dictating what goes on shelves and what gets sent back to the label. It's less of a numbers game and more of an appreciation for music. You know, how it should be. There aren't many still around, but thanks to this, its easy to find one.

To give you a heads up, The Bouncing Souls will release a very special, very limited 7" to celebrate RSD. Only 500 copies of this picture disc will be available nation-wide. It will feature "Gasoline," "Airport Security," "Badass" and "Never Say Die/When You're Young."

So- how are you going to celebrate?

Serj Tankian's Solo Stuff

Serj Tankian has had a solo project going for a while and he's well into his newest release. Some details about the album are just now getting out.

The new album will be titled Imperfect Harmonies and is currently in the mixing process. Tankian is referring to the sound on his new record as "electro-orchestral-jazz-rock" He continues:
...the majority of the songs have this huge wall of sound presented in a way I have never heard before. It’s not common to have a song that is both electronic and orchestral since one is synthetic and the other organic, but I found a way of meshing a lot of these colors together.
Tankian also says his lyrics are more social, political, environmental and personal and are much darker with urgency. He sums up his solo efforts below:
My intentions have always been to make music that is creative, quality, and moving. I have never learned the static method of repeating myself musically whether in System or now. Each record I have made has been different musically, yet they all carry the same integral spirit.
There is no release date slated yet, but we are promised more info over the next few months.
